My Closet Clean Out Checklist
Over the last few days I've been checking out the catalog for the upcoming Nordstrom Anniversary Sale - it's a big one! I love Nordstrom, but it can be pricey, so I look for investment, quality/cost-per-wear pieces. If you need a refresher on my cost-per-wear philosophy, check out my blogpost on Style Math. The sale is great because it applies to new inventory for the upcoming Fall/Winter season. If you are in the market for coats/jackets (I'm loving this lavender one), shoes/boots (like these waterproof ankle boots), dresses, active or workwear etc. it is definitely worth a look. Kids, menswear and beauty products are also part of this event and are also featured in the catalog.
It's also an opportunity to check out some of the upcoming trends for the new season. I never advocate shopping according to trends, however, if there is one that you see and absolutely love, it can be a good time to pick it up. Because: A) you love it- and we want to fill the wardrobe with pieces we love and enjoy wearing AND: B) adding the occasional trendy piece from time to time will keep the wardrobe fresh and modern.
Sale runs from July 20 - Aug 5th. If you are a Nordstrom member you get early access as of July 12th. Catalog prices are in USD but the sale also will be running here in Canada.
I always suggest before spending your hard earned $$ to add anything to your closet (especially higher priced items/cost-per-wear items) it's important to take the time to take stock of what you have and try and identify any gaps. Is there one piece you are missing that, if it were hanging in your closet, would allow you to create many more outfits (i.e.: versatile blazer, Moto jacket, neutral trouser, bootie etc.)? Always shop your closet before hitting the shops. If you don't go in with a plan, you can get distracted by the discounts and end up splurging on pieces that aren't needed and might not give the value over time.
Here is my closet clean out checklist to help you get started:
Note: I find this also works very well with a glass of wine on hand!
Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions about the upcoming sale (or, I'd love to know what catches your eye from the catalog...).
Cheers,
Lori
